Sex Packets, Digital Underground’s groundbreaking debut album, was released on March 20, 1990. Seamlessly blending funk-infused rhythms with jazz piano and satirical social commentary, the album crafts a unique concept, propelled by the infectious “Humpty Dance” and the charismatic persona of Humpty Hump. Heavily influenced by P-Funk, the album showcases innovative production by Shock G and addresses themes of sexuality and culture with a playful yet insightful approach. Sex Packets was certified platinum by the RIAA. The album reached #24 on the Billboard 200 and #8 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. It includes the singles “Doowutchyalike” (which peaked at #19 on the Hot Rap Singles, #20 on the Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles chart and #29 on the Hot R&B Singles chart) and “The Humpty Dance” (which reached #11 on the pop charts, #7 on the R&B charts, and #1 on the Billboard Rap Singles chart). This new lyric video for “Freaks of the Industry” contains original artwork by the late Shock G, and performance video footage. In celebration of the 35th anniversary of this landmark album, the LP features a gatefold cover that opens to reveal a three-dimensional pop-up of a recording studio and also includes three bonus tracks. Nobody could have imagined the impact the label would have on pop culture. As a subsidiary of the larger Bad Boy Entertainment, the label became best known for its signature sound of streetwise hip-hop soul and the ghetto fabulousness that radiated like precious jewels from its very name. Bad Boy was designed for those who aspired higher, but also wanted to party until the break of dawn. Puffy had seen life from both sides of the class divide and, with his groove-heavy music, worked hard to merge the two. There is no better visual embodiment of this merger than the groundbreaking videos that were in heavy rotation on BET and MTV and now on YouTube. The Bad Boy Entertainment channel is the official YouTube home of iconic music videos from Puff Daddy, Craig Mack, Faith Evans, 112, Total, Mase, Yung Joc, Cassie, Danity Kane, and the rest of the Bad Boy Family, and your destination for some of the biggest 90s and 00s hip-hop hits of all time like Craig Mack’s “Flava In Your Ear (Remix)”, the Notorious B.I.G. tribute “I’ll Be Missing You” by Puff Daddy feat. Faith Evans and 112, and Cassie – “Me & U”. We proudly present "LUXXURY - Let’s Stay Together" in our series “Discovered By ICEA”. Artists we believe deserve to be highlighted, but not (yet) have signed to the label. Listen to all the music discovered so far: https://icea.ffm.to/discoveredbyicea BIOGRAPHY LUXXURY makes dance music for adults. Raw, funky bass-lines plucked with grown-man finesse. A mastery of keyboard and synth native only to those who lived through the late '70s/early '80s. Dust in the glitter that vibrates in the space between string stabs, bongo slaps, and guitar jabs—even while the steady pulse and astral effects feel beamed in from a more cybernetic future Los Angeles. That's where the nu-disco wizard born Blake Robin dwells, of course.
